This reproduction is based on highly detailed map of the Mediterranean, first published 1685. The map was created by Nicolas Sanson (1600–1667), one of the most influential French cartographers. In 1660s Sanson went into partnership with geographer, cartographer and publisher Alexis-Hubert Jaillot (1632-1712), who published and re-engraved many of Sanson's geographic works. Reproduced is a rare 1696 early edition of the map.
