Our collection of tapestries are produced in Belgium where this art form originated with the infamous 11th century Bayeux tapestry depicting Queen Mathilda of Flanders, still preserved today in the Bayeux Museum in Normandy. Tapestry weaving later developed throughout northern Europe and large scale manufacturers were established in Flanders including the well-known “Manufature royale des Gobelins” commissioned by Louis XIV in 1664. Flemish weavers also expanded workshops around Central Europe (from c 1500) including the city of Prague. Our selection of tapestries and pillows are inspired by famous works of art from Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque creations to Art Nouveau and contemporary designs.
